The buildings of Hall of Mental Cultivation serves as the main place for the emperors of the Qing Dynasty,and it represents the highest rights center in the Qing Dynasty,each part of the building reflects the highest level of the technology at that time.The exterior Doors and Windows,the important part of the building,satisfies the function of the building,enriches the decorative effect of the building`s facade,and also has a high degree of flexibility,which changes greatly with the change of history.The external doors and windows in the Hall of Mental Cultivation area serve as a direct historical witness,possessing a special historical trajectory and carrying a wealth of historical information.The research can not only sort out the context of doors and windows in the Qing dynasty,but also have important guiding significance to protect the traditional exterior doors and windows System.This research is based on the current survey results and the review of relevant theoretical data and history file,it conducts systematic research on the history and form of the exterior doors and windows of Hall of Mental Cultivation to deepens the value system.Based on the investigation of the status of the exterior windows and doors,the article first reviews the related archives since Yongzheng Dynasty.Secondly,on this basis,Types,distributions,styles,and historical relics are analyzed on the basis of the status quo and historical causes;a large number of dimensional data are then sorted out,statistically analyzed,and the dimensional trade-offs of exterior doors and window system in the production process are obtained;Based on a comprehensive analysis of the value of the entire area,a general overview of the protection of doors and windows in the outer area is provided.The study of the doors and windows outside the Hall of Mental Cultivation area is very valuable,first of all,it enriches the data of the exterior doors and windows system of the Qing Dynasty,including the construction methods and the rules of size,etc.;secondly,the distribution rules and the reason they are determined are found with this study`s help;in the end,a full-scale assessment of its value can play a role in guiding the protection of the exterior doors and windows of Hall of Mental Cultivation,even of the external walls of the Forbidden City.
