The residential neighborhood of ancient city is an important part of human material and cultural heritage,and it is also the foundation of residents’ daily life communication.The node space in the neighborhood is an important public space for people to exchange activities,which is an indispensable part of the ancient city protection.At the same time,the neighborhood node space is constantly adjusted and evolved according to people’s needs.The spatial characteristics of the node reflect the ability of people to use the limited material elements to construct the suitable living space environment under the condition that the technical means are relatively backward,which embodies the basic physiological and psychological needs of the residents.However,with the development and change of The Times,people’s way of life has also changed.The node space of ancient city is not enough to meet the modern people’s way of life.Meanwhile,during the renewal process of the ancient city neighborhood,people’s attention to the needs of the residents in the neighborhood is not enough,so that the node space of the neighborhood has lost its original vitality.Therefore,it is necessary to update the node space of the neighborhood to recreating the vitality of the space and meeting the living needs of the residents.This paper,from the perspective of environmental behavior,takes the NO.7,8,9 street of the ancient city of Suzhou as an example,classifies the node space in the neighborhood,investigates the environmental elements,behavior characteristics and perception cognition of the node space,summarizes the general characteristics of the space and the real needs of the people.Based on those analysis results to conduct the update design of the node space and summary the renewal strategies of the node space in the ancient city residential neighborhood.
