| Along with the rapid urban development in our country, the renewal of old residential areas becomes the main demand and the trend of city developing.By influence of early planning thought and limitation of economy and construction, old neighborhoods were built only in accordance with the living demand and circumstanceat the time before reform and opening up in China when there was not the complete standard. Neighborhood builders only pursue short construction periodinstead of integrated design. Open space for people’s social contact between buildings was not considered enough then.Now days, peoplenot only require good physical buildings but also spiritual communication and harmonious neighborhood environment since economy and culture developing.The study object of this thesis is a large number of old residential buildings in Shanghai, which are built before reform and opening up in China.Those residential areas have not good space design, and most facilities are aged along with time, which are no long meet the demand of people’s living.This article start from the intercourse and interaction characteristics of people, analyses the factors and social factors influence people’s space, through site survey in old residential area; interview for current space use;human activities observation and questionnaire.It also studied space use and demand by deferent people in terms of age, gender, and income level.On the issues ofexistingproblems of space use in old neighborhoods, strategies and methods of renovation and development are discussed in respects of space layout, space quality, landscape and facilities etc.Caoyang community renovation is taken as aninstance for examining feasibility and scientificity of strategy and method proposed by thesis.Thesis hopes through the preliminary discussion to provide some ideas and method for neighborhood renewal in order to improve old residential area in Shanghai, as well as, give some ideas to such research in other cities. |
