Metal Oxide Surge Arrester(MOA)is the main equipment to limit overvoltage in power grid,which provides low protection level and wide protection margin for important power grid equipment.But because of bad structure,lack of experience and tight seal,the increase of MOA resistance leakage current causes the temperature of valve plate to rise,which eventually leads to damage or explosion of MOA,which affects the safe and stable operation of the power grid.Therefore,it is of great theoretical and practical value for the safety and stability of the whole power grid to carry out the research on the method of detecting the insulation defects of MOA and to make a simple,rapid and accurate diagnosis of the MOA insulation defect.This paper introduces the research background and significance of MOA live detection method,summarizes the causes of MOA operation failure and the main live detection methods at home and abroad.The detection method o f MOA leakage current and the infrared thermal image detection method are studied.The advantages and disadvantages of the two detection methods are analyzed,and the accuracy of the detection method is verified by the actual fault.A joint detection metho d of MOA based on leakage current and infrared thermography is presented in this paper.The method is based on the leakage current and infrared thermal image detection results,rather than the single live detection technology.The method is based on leakag e current and infrared thermal image detection results to verify each other and complement each other.Therefore,it has the ability to diagnose MOA operating conditions quickly and accurately.At the same time,a new MOA inspection method is proposed.The method is based on the infrared thermal image detection results to judge whether the leakage current live detection is carried out,and the workload of the electrical equipment maintenance personnel is greatly reduced.
