Wood culture is the wood-related humanization of people’s lives,the shared values of wood and the use of wood.Its tangible forms of expression include traditional or modern wooden architecture,wooden furniture,wooden caskets,wood carvings,and wooden musical instruments.Intangible manifestations such as people’s thoughts,behaviors and activities(such as history,literature,science,technology,institutions,economy,etc.)related to wood,wood,and woody environments.The study of wood culture looks at wood from a humanistic perspective.It reflects the relationship between man and nature and opens up a new perspective for people to understand wood.However,the art of wood carving,which is derived from the traditional wooden structure,has been re-emphasized due to the exquisite craftsmanship and gorgeous appearance.Carrying on China’s five thousand years of cultural love and reverence of nature,wood carving is no longer a simple heritage of craftsmanship,but also become a continuation of Chinese culture and national spirit.Because of the folk customs,cultural backgrounds,natural conditions,technological differences,so that traditional wood carving with rich local characteristics.Therefore,the study on the regional and cultural connotation of Chinese traditional woodcarving may be more important to us than its elaboration.Huizhou architectural decoration wood carving style in the dynasties vary,until the Ming and Qing Dynasties formed a relatively complete system of decorative wood carvings.As a component of wooden structure in traditional Chinese architecture,it is influenced by various factors,making it develop from the initial load-bearing component to a purely decorative component during the Ming and Qing Dynasties.This article takes the ancient buildings of Pingshan Village and Xidi Village of Yi County,Huangshan City,Anhui Province as the objects.Take field surveys,literature review,comparative studies,hand-painted restoration,etc.to systematic research on Huizhou Woodcarving architectural corbels.In order to provide theoretical support for the excavation,repair and protection of cultural connotation and the integration of traditional aesthetic elements and modern design.The main research work and results completed are summarized as follows:1)Huizhou is rich in native tree species,and there are many wood carvings available.The main materials for carving are Cinnamomum camphora,Chinese fir and ginkgo.2)The carving of corbels in the wooden structure of Huizhou includes a variety ofsubject types,which are mainly summarized as characters and stories,animals and plants,landscapes and poetry,patterns.3)There are various carving techniques for Huizhou’s corbels,which are mainly classified into round carving,bas-relief carving,deep-relief carving,hollow carving,line carving,and engraved carving.4)Huizhou woodcarving corbels contains rich cultural connotation and aesthetic value.This paper focuses on its cultural origins,cultural characteristics and cultural connotations.Its aesthetic features include intentionality,folk custom,rituality,and functionality.5)The wooden legs of Huizhou woodcarving are rich in cultural connotation and aesthetic value.This paper focuses on its cultural origin,cultural characteristics and cultural connotation.Its aesthetic implications include the intentional beauty,folk beauty,and practical beauty.6)Hand-painted restoration of four kinds of Huizhou corbels,including character and stories,animal and plants,landscape and poetry,patterns,with its linear and flat display of its aesthetic elements.Through a large number of studies and conclusions,it was found that the culture embodied in the corbels of Huizhou wood carvings is mainly embodied in the Confucian culture centered on the ideas of harmony between the heaven and human,people oriented and study.
