Recently, with the rapid development of construction industry in China, indoor environmental quality and comfort has gradually attracted more attention. However, there are performance gaps between actual environmental conditions and design expectations in most newly built buildings. Therefore,it is very important to conduct post-occupancy evaluation?POE?of new buildings for accumulating basic data and providing suggestions for the improvement of indoor environment design. While, the comfort level of indoor environment is by the result of integration influences.Hence,it is necessary to establish a comprehensive index rather than merely refer to single parameters. On one hand, the integrated index could help to evaluate the comfort level combined thermal environment and indoor air quality and reflect the state of mind of occupants with the indoor environment. On the other hand,it could be a practical tool to bridge the communications among building designers, users, and engineers. However, there are lots of differences between indoor environment of newly built building and existing building. And occupants'satisfaction of environment needs further studies. It is very necessary to reasonably introduce new evaluation factors and adopt new weight allocation for evaluating IAQ in new buildings. This research aims to develop a new index for evaluating IAQ and thermal comfort in newly built offices and propose some guidance and suggestions for future improvement.Post-occupancy evaluation?POE?was conducted in seven offices?UK?and five office?China?in two newly built buildings respectively by the physical measurement and subjective survey.Indoor environment parameters such as air temperature?T?,carbon dioxide?CO2?concentration and volatile organic compounds?VOCs?concentration, particulate matter?PM2.5,PM10?were measured continously.Indoor occupancy status and ventilation status were monitored at the same time.Meanwhile, the occupants'thermal sensations and perceptions about air quality were assessed through questionnaires. Results revealed that indoor thermal environments were warmer in UK while that of China offices were relative cooler. This is related to the entire building envelope and heating facilities. However, the main problem of the two new buildings is air quality.During the monitoring period of offices in the UK,average CO2 concentration exceeded1000ppm when the office was occupied;the average TVOC concentrations in some rooms of Reading?UK?exceeded the limit value. While the average CO2 and TVOC concentration in the building of Xi'an?China?did not exceed the limit value.Dynamic analysis showed that natural ventilation could help to reduce indoor TVOC concentrations. The concentration of PM2.5 and PM10 in part of the offices tested in China exceeded the limit, which was mainly related to the level of outdoor particulate matter. Moreover, the result of Spearman correlation analysis on indoor CO2,TVOC,PM2.5,PM10 concentration and IAQ perception indicated that only TVOC had a significant impact on the occupants'assessment of IAQ.Finally,TVOC concentration was used as the evaluation factor of IAQ index?IAQI?by ordinal logistic regression. The TVOC concentration ranges of 5 IAQI levels?‘0Excellent'4Worst'?were:00.11mg/m3,0.110.24mg/m3,0.250.66mg/m3,0.671.08mg/m3,>1.09 mg/m3.And then thermal comfort and IAQ were combined also by logistic regression to develop a comprehensive comfort prediction model?IEQI?.The weights of IAQI and TCI were3.272 and 2.640 respectively, which indicated that IAQ has more significant influence on occupants'comfort than thermal environment in new buildings.
