"Low Intervention" Landscape Design Under The Influence Of Environmental Aesthetics

In the 1960s,with the introduction of the theory of environmental aesthetics,nature entered people's vision as an aesthetic object which affected the landscape design,showing a critique of the landscape under the traditional aesthetics that only focus on the aesthetic meditation,and emphasizing the integration of the environment with the human.Under the background of environmental aesthetics,this paper introduces the concept of "low intervention" landscape and aims to solve the existing traditional aesthetic problems of contemporary urban landscape in our country by exploring a series of design principles,design strategies and design methods of "low intervention" landscape.This paper begins with the theoretical foundation,explains the basic connotation of environmental aesthetics,including its development process,research content and application range,clarifies the natural view which take environment and people as a unified whole.Then,by contrasting the theoretical differences between traditional aesthetics and environmental aesthetics,this paper analyzes the differences between the two in terms of nature view,content appreciation,mode of appreciation and environment appreciation,and two different landscape types under the different aesthetic modes,and reflects the existing problems of contemporary landscape design in our country.Then,the landscape model under environmental aesthetics leads to the “low intervention” landscape which is defined as the “landscape type with the least intervention on the site and the least impact on the environment to achieve the goal of effectively protecting the site,the surrounding environment,and the ecosystem”.The core of this article is a series of design principles,design strategies,and design methods of the “low intervention” landscape.Based on the analysis of theory and practice,this paper summarizes design principles and design strategies in five aspects —“low intervention”,“low impact”,“restorative”,“interactive”,and “sociality”.Under the guidance of design principles and strategies,this paper explains design methods of “low intervention” landscape specifically in five elements,including form space,plant configuration,use of material,interactive design,and cultural design,by combining related domestic and overseas cases.At last,it is hoped that this article can promote the concept of “low intervention” and provide theoretical guidance and methodological reference for the same type of landscape.
