| The “flowing space” advocated by modern architecture master Ludwig Mies Van der Rohe is one of the six principles of modern architecture and has a great influence on the world architecture community. In 1929,Mies designed the famous German Pavilion at the Barcelona Expo and was a successful attempt at the concept of “flowing space.” The emergence of the concept of “flowing space” is a sign of the division of ancient and modern Western times.Chinese traditional gardens are uniquely crafted in the gardening practice to create a spatially-flowing artistic conception. They are combined through dynamics and perspectives such as “virtuality and reality,” “small and medium-sized,” “spatial sequence,” “moving and moving,” and “dynamic and static contrasts.” The spatial processing method, and then to achieve the effect of space-time continuous, spatial flow. There is certain feasibility and comparability for the commonality and difference in the comparative study between the“flowing space” in the West and the traditional Chinese garden space. Therefore, the comparative study of the two is more meaningful and of reference value. As a form of space,“Flowing Space” is not only a product of the development of Western architecture to the modern age,but also a form of space in which traditional and long-established Chinese traditional gardens have been continuously improved. Therefore, this article will investigate the contrast between Western architecture and garden culture. This study starts from the perspective of “mobility” of space, grasps the spatial form of “liquidity”in traditional gardens, and analyzes the characteristics of “flowing space” in Western architecture;then,it selects Chinese traditional gardens and The excellent example of Western architecture, using the methods of metaphysics in the ancient Chinese philosophy, and the method of “arrangement and subordination”,conducted a comparative study of the spatial imagery and spatial representation of Chinese traditional garden space and western “flowing space”.Explore the similarities and differences between the two in terms of background, connotation, purpose, and characterization; Finally, based on a combination of philosophical thinking and space theory, the “flowing space” way of thinking that integrates traditional gardens with modern architecture is explored, which complements the theoretical system ofhuman cultural inheritance and development. |
