| Since the Cultural Relics Protection Act designated the historic blocks as categories of immovable cultural relics in 2002,some areas have begun to protect and update historic blocks. However, due to lack of experience, protection updates in many areas have not yet achieved very good results, and some blocks with protection value are not listed as protected objects. With the policies such as “Urban Renewal” and “City Renovation” being put forward, government experts and scholars have increased the number of historic street blocks to be protected and at the same time carried out a new round of conservation planning for objects already listed as historic blocks in order to make historic blocks be protected better. The historic commercial district combines historical architectural value with historical commercial value.Compared with residential historic blocks,it involves the protection of the original business forms and the promotion of its economic prosperity. Therefore, this article starts with the functions of historical commercial districts, conducting field surveys and relevant data collection in the three districts that have been reconstructed and updated in the recent years in the southern Fujian region, sorting out and analyzing the functional evolution of the historic district blocks during the process of protection and analyzing the effects of the functional evolution. In addition,a summary analysis of the single-building reconstruction design in the block, which is not mentioned much in the plan, was conducted to seek to propose strategies for the protection of historic commercial blocks from the aspects of functional regeneration and building renovation.Firstly, the thesis combs the development origin, the updating process, and the current characteristics of the historical commercial districts, and makes a statement on the basic situations of the three typical cases selected in this paper.Secondly, according to field surveys information data and related planning data for collation and comparison, from the aspects of functional evolution and architectural transformation and design, the street is divided into macro, meso, and microscopic narratives.Functional regeneration starts from the three aspects of block function, street function and building function(retail industry),analyzes the function evolution under the influence of government policy guidance and market economy adjustment, and focuses on the development of tourism and cultural industries in the neighborhood. The transformation of the building design is first analyzed from the transition space and interior space design influenced by the function change, and three aspects of design details which are the material selection, equipment shelter, and atmosphere contrast are analyzed and studied. Then, select Dihua Street,Taipei, which is similar to the historical and commercial street in southern Fujian Province but has a better protection and update to analyze its strategies and achievements in functional regeneration and transformation design. In the end, combining selfresearch and case studies,we have come up with a strategy for implementing functional regeneration and building renovation of historical commercial districts that are suitable for the current social development situation, which has prompted the development of historical commercial districts in both economic development and protection and renewal. |
