University library is the place inherits the college’s culture and spirit.It carries tremendous knowledge of different kinds of academic.Therefore gathering lecturers and students in the university.With readers’ changing needs,the management mode of University Library changed from closed shelves into open shelves,and it’s turning into the trend of digital,intelligent and ecological development.Today the function and spatial structure of University Library has changed a lot,from the traditional one into multifunctional complex,in order to keep pace with the readers’ changing needs in learning and communicating.However,as a result the number of readers in the library increased by years.As it contains a large number of fire load such as books,a higher requirement in terms of the safety evacuation design of university library becomes necessary and important.Unfortunately,overall there is relatively less research on University Library safety evacuation,while more researches have been done on safety evacuation of a particular architectural unit.We found a lack of guidance for University Library safety evacuation design.Based on the above research background,this paper aims to shed light on the safety evacuation factors and their influence of University Library.Firstly,the spatial functions,distribution and people flow of university libraries,the behavior and psychology of people when facing the fire,and the combustion mechanism with catching fire process were studied.Meanwhile,a selection of the simulation platform is made for the following research.Secondly,through the survey of the scale and spatial characteristics of university libraries,the paper analyses and summarises the most widely used and typical types of University Library.By taking the library of Harbin Institute of Technology as the basic model,an real field survey and its corresponding 3D model with space and people will be built.Thirdly,using performance-based analysis method,this model will be set in a various of typical situations to be simulated within Smart Fire,so as to get the relevant date and further analyse the smoke diffusion conditions.Finally,this section applies control variables method to analysis how the exit,evacuation channel,stair in atrium and distribution of reading rooms influence the evacuation of library space.Last and most importantly,optimization design strategies of large gymnasium evacuation will be proposed based on this study.This study aims to guarantee the safety of people in university libraries,and there is theoretical and practical significance in guiding the fire evacuation design.However,due to the software accuracy limitation,the influence of various factors on smaller scale needs to be further studied.
