Fractal geometry theory has been widely used in various disciplines since its introduction in the 1970 s,and also shows its unique charm in architectural disciplines and art fields.Meanwhile, the flexible use of fractal geometry by pioneering architects has triggered much attention from the construction industry.Under such a background, traditional European geometric style begins to be nonlinear and diversified;the traditional static, cold and dull architecture tends to be dynamic, flowing, etc. As an inevitable product of the highly prosperous commodity economy and the development of urbanization, the store building is ubiquitous and becomes a part of the main space in people’s lives. As the city and commerce develops, people’s aesthetic level improves, which requires a higher demand of exterior architectural design of shops. In order to attract consumers, this kind of architecture also tends to “visualize the epidermis” in the design of the facade, using the features of the building facade to highlight the charm of the store brand. The architectural style has become more mature in Japan, another Asian country, after going through the economic bubbles. And a large number of contemporary research and studies regarding store construction has emerged.Taking the contemporary Japanese small store building as the research object, the author combines the fractal geometry theory with the facade of the store building to expound the interdisciplinary research and application of fractal geometry and architecture. This paper is divided into four parts. The first part(Chapter 1 to Chapter 3)mainly elaborates the concept and extension of fractal geometry theory and store architecture. The second part(Chapter 4)mainly analyzes the design of the facade of the small shop building under the fractal view;the third part(Chapter 5)mainly analyzes the basic design elements, materials and construction practices of store building facades from the perspective of technology;Part IV(Chapter 6)is a summary of the full text, including the issues and outlook for the study of the exterior facade design and fractal architecture of small shops in Japan.
