In our country,the automobile safety technical standard?The protection of the occupants in the event of a frontal collision for motor vehicle?referenced to mainly the regulation ECER9400?Economic Commission of Europe Rule?.A serious of Hybrid?dummies,which represent the anthropometric dimensions of eastern people,are used in vehicle frontal crash tests.Since there are some differences between Chinese and western anthropometric dimensions,the occupant location of Chinese will be in the front of that of western occupants,which may increase the injury risk of Chinese occupants.It is of great significance for the security improvement of china occupant restraint systems to study the differences of occupant injuries between Chinese and western occupants during vehicle collisions.Firstly,by collecting relevant literature,Chinese and western 50th percentile anthropometric dimensions were obtained.The Chinese anthropometric dimensions were from CNIS?China National Institute Standardization?database and the western anthropometric dimensions were from CAESAR?Civilian American and European Surface Anthropometry Resource?database.20 important human body dimensions were selected from both databases respectively and scaling factors were calculated.A Chinese50th percentile human body model was constructed by using scaling method based on the THUMS?AM50?model which was jointly developed by Toyota Motor Corporation and Toyota Central Research and Development Labs.,Inc.Secondly,the neck injuries of THUMS model was constructed by secondary development of Dynasaur based on the neck injury evaluation method of SUFEHNM?Strasbourg University Finite Element Head Neck Model?model which was jointly developed by French Strasbourg university and Daimler AG.Finally,the finite element model of a Mercedes Benz intermediate car sled was combined with both human body models respectively to establish the simulation analysis platforms.The computation process was finished by using software ls-dyna.Post-processing software Dynasuar was used to deal with the simulation results.The injury differences between Chinese and western 50th percentile male occupants were analyzed including head,thorax,extremities,organs,ligaments and neck.The analysis results reveal that,in vehicle frontal crash,the head and thorax injury risks of western occupants are obviously larger than that of Chinese occupants.There were no obvious injury risk differences found between Chinese and western occupants in extremities,organs and ligaments.The neck injury risks caused by shear force Fx are basically the same between Chinese and western occupants.But regarding to the neck injury risks caused by axial force Fz and bending moment My,the western occupants are severe than the Chinese occupants.
