A Research On The Relationship Between Shipping And Regional Economic Development In Hubei Province

As a basic and leading industry for national economy and social development,transportation is a key area for infrastructural construction,which connects the production and consumption.The efficiency of transportation services directly affects the cost of economic operation and it closely connected with the structural reforms on the supply side of the economy.Shipping is an important part of the transportation industry.Hubei is located in the Thoroughfare to Nine Provinces and in the middle reaches of the golden channel,these are advantageous for possessing abundant shipping resources.At the same time,large towns in Hubei province and pillar industries such as steel,automobile and chemical industry are also mainly distributed along the Yangtze rive.The potential of developing water transportation is unimaginable.Studying the interactive relationship between the development of shipping in Hubei and regional economic growth has important practical significance because of Hubei's advantages in resources and location,.What is more,it can help us to optimize the transport structure,promote the cost reduction,and enhance Hubei's economic competitiveness.For this reason,this article has launched research work on the interactive relationship between Hubei shipping and regional economic growth.The first is to combine qualitative analysis and quantitative analysis to study the intrinsic mechanism between shipping development and regional economic growth.The second is to use the VAR model to empirically analyze the interaction mechanism between shipping development and regional economic growth.The third is to analyze the reasons for the decline of shipping in Hubei.Finally,make relevant policy recommendations.The main conclusions are as follows: Firstly,the grey relational degree between the shipping volume and GDP is the large.Secondly,through the VAR model analysis,the shipping is the induced demand for regional economic development,and GDP contributes up to 80% of the shipping volume,but the effect of shipping development on economic growth is not obvious.Thirdly,the reasons for the backwardness of shipping development included demand-side and supply-side.The demand-side is mainly due to the low economic openness and incomplete industrial structure.The supply-side is mainly due to the low level of channel,and the long waiting time to get into the gates in the Three Gorges,which increases transportation costs,and the incomplete transportation system,which increase-s the overall cost.Fourthly,the proposal for the coordinated development of shipping and regional development.Promoting the structural reform of the water supply in Hubei,and servicing the major development strategies of the country and the province,and controlling the new demands of the shipping market.
