Locomotive fan is mainly used for railway locomotive exhaust,cooling and other purposes.The impeller is a key component of the fan,its quality determines the quality of the machine.There are shortcomings for the traditional aluminum alloy die-casting impeller,such as high cost,noise,heavy quality,poor corrosion resistance,high prices and so on.The advantages of glass fiber reinforced plastic(GFRP)composite fan are light weight,high strength,anti-fatigue,vibration and noise reduction,corrosion resistance and low price.In this paper,we take the aluminum alloy impeller structure as the sample,and conduct the structural design of GFRP impeller structure and connection mode under the premise of not changing the structural configuration of the impeller,so as to make full use of the advantages of GFRP materials and processing technology for GFRP impeller.Through the calculation of the product strength and the numerical simulation,the maximum stress of the glass fiber reinforced plastic impeller under different working conditions is determined.According to the analysis of the strength and the structural shape of the glass fiber reinforced plastic impeller,the paper analyzes the manufacturing process of the glass fiber reinforced plastic impeller by sheet molding compounds(SMC).The forming process of the GFRP impeller is investigated experimentally and the key process parameters of the molding GFRP SMC impeller are discharge mode,molding temperature,molding speed,molding pressure and holding time.The mechanical test and loading test of the GFRP impeller were conducted and the results show that the main properties of the GFRP impeller are in line with the technical requirements of the products.Comparing with the aluminum alloy impeller,the GFRP impeller is of low weight,good corrosion resistance,and in the case of batch production the GFRP impeller has advantages of high production efficiency and low production cost.However,the damping effects of glass fiber reinforced plastic impeller to vibration is not obvious.
