At present,Automobile manufacturing enterprises,especially joint ventures,design and develop by the drawings of mature products,but because of the difference between the local raw materials and processing equipment,the local products although can achieve the design specification of all drawings,but will still present a variety of failure.In this paper,I am based on the problem of scuffing of cylinder bore in a GM factory of a new project product verification stage,and analyze the produce mechanism of scuffing of cylinder bore,I find the potential causes of the scuffing of cylinder bore through the analysis of a large number of tests and microscopic phenomena.And in the process especially in the cylinder bore honing processing was optimized to improve the wear resistance of the cylinder surface,so as to enhance the performance of the engine and improve the service life of the engine.Platform honing is a kind of advanced machining technology which is widely used in engine industry.It is mainly used in the machining of engine cylinder bore or cylinder liner.It is especially suitable for the precise matching of moving parts.The platform honing makes the surface of the workpiece form many dense helical platforms,in which the grooves can enhance the ability of the surface of the workpiece to store the lubricating oil.And it can reduce or even avoid scuffing phenomenon,reduces the engine running in period,and improve its service life.In this paper,we first study the 1.6L block drawing requirement and then plan honing process according to GM New Product Launch Process.GEHS test method was used to verify the tensile performance of the engine.The reasons of the product failure and the improved methods were summarized.Through the test,it was found that the engine was able to pass the GEHS test or not with the piston,the piston ring,connecting rods are not relevant,using the engine with imported cylinder assembly can pass the GEHS test,using with the cylinder imported honing can also pass the GEHS test,the greatest impact on the thermal strain test is the fine honing process.At the beginning of the cylinder test,the oil film was not established.The phenomena of scuffing of cylinder bore occurred in the early,the cylinder bore's surface quality affect increasingly.Then,the processing quality of fine honing process was analyzed from two aspects:oilstone and honing pressure.And the selection of honing sand,the matching of honing margin and the selection of honing liquid have been summarized that the D-030-85.774-75 Whetstone and 8%-10%Honing Fluid produced by Intaken were more suitable for the processing of the engine block.
