Since the renewable power generation could help to improve the national energy structure,protect the ecological environment and guarantee the energy safety,it has received great attention from all over the world.Pumped hydro energy storage(PHES)plant has the advantages of flexible start-up and fast regulating speed.It is a mature,reliable and economical peak-shaving power supply and energy storage power supply.This paper studies the dynamic modeling of PHES plant and its applications in wind power system frequency regulation,which has certain theoretical significance and practical application value.This paper investigates the detailed model of conventional PHES and the rapidly developing adjustable speed PHES(AS-PHES)in both turbine and pump modes,and then compares their control performance in wind power system frequency regulation.Based on the AS-PHES,this paper designs typical inertial response control and primary frequency reserve control to improve wind power system frequency response.Then the sizing of energy storage is discussed and verified by simulations.
