Adaptable function products refer to a specific kind of products that can deliver multiple functions by replacing some of the structural components.Such products have many advantages as compared with the those with only one fixed function.Yet,they may still need upgrading because existing function or performance cannot meet the desired requirements due to the technical development and the changing market requirements,As such,research on upgrading of adaptable function products takes part in the research of adaptable function product redesign.In light of the lackness of research in this area,this thesis carries out research in the following aspects:Firstly,it studies the behaviour similarity of adaptable function mechanical products,with respect to the material,energy and signal information,for which the nearness degree in fuzzy mathematics is employed.The similarity degree of adaptable-function’s behaviours is evaluated,which provides certain theoretical support for the prediction of the lifetime of adaptable-function products relevant to each adaptable functions.In the end,a muti-function tillage machine is used and the similarity of digging farmland,transforming goods and spraying pesticide is calculated,and based on the digging farmland’s lifetime and the similarity degree between the digging farmland function and others,the lifetime corresponding to the other two function are predicted.Secondly,it studies the redesign method for functional upgrading of the adaptable-function mechanical products.Due to fact that functional upgrading mainly relates to the redesign of functional structure,two approaches are proposed.First,the TRIZ(Theory of Inventive Problem Solving)is employed to transform the upgrading function into appropriate form,with which the solutions of upgrading structure can be obtained by innovation principle cases.Second,the upgrading structure solutions is obtained by the aiding of functional upgrading software prototype,which is established by the ACCESS database system and Visual Basic programming language.In the end,the power tool of electric drill is used as a design case study for which a new component of“derusting and polishing disc”is designed.Thirdly,it studies the performance upgrading relevant methodology,in particular,the performance characteristics priority is researched.With analysis of the upgrading technology potential and upgrading changing influence,a comprehensive priority formula is obtained,and a multi-function machine tool is used for case study,which demonstrates the feasibility of the proposed methodology.Fourthly,by exploiting a specific characteristic of the adaptable-function products,in that the upgrading task may be implemented by changing and replacing only a small number of structural components,it studies the component upgrading status for adaptable-function products.With the case study of multi-function machine tool,the upgrading status for all components are identified,which provides the designers further guidance in upgrading of the adaptable-function products.Lastly,an adaptable-function product redesign software prototype is developed with uses of ACCESS database and VB 6.0 programming language.The developed database can be upgraded by storage,modifying and deletion operations,which takes the design knowledge relevant to the commonly used product principles and cases information.Meanwhile,the software prototype can assist the designers in conducting analysis for redesign of the adaptable-function products,including the quantitative measurement of behavior similarity,function coupling and system coupling,etc.,providing a useful tool support to the designers.
