With the rapid development of road traffic,the problem of traffic jam is becoming more and more serious,Traffic guidance system provides a new way to ease traffic congestion.As a commonly used method to provide some traffic guidance information,in the expressway traffic management system,VMS can improve the traffic capacity and service level of expressway effectively.In order to maximize the effectiveness of limited VMS and avoid the waste of resources,it is necessary to study the issues of VMS location optimization.Based on the actual data of expressway network,this paper analyzes the spatial distribution characteristics,including the analysis of flow and traffic incident in the expressway network,and proposes a method for OD path flow estimation based on actual travel time.Considering the distribution of path flow and traffic incidents,we use integer programming theory to establish the corresponding VMS location optimization model based on different optimization objectives,including maximizing the number of OD pairs that VMS can cover?maximizing the traffic flow that VMS can cover?maximizing the number of incident section that VMS can cover ?maximizing the traffic flow of the related paths of incidents that VMS can cover,and the maximization of the revenue of VMS.On the basis of these five deterministic models,taking into account the randomness of traffic incidents in the road network,a two stage stochastic integer program optimization model was proposed.In addition,an algorithm based on basic theories of genetic algorithm was designed to solve this problem.The classic Sioux-Falls road network is used to simulate the expressway network and the rationality and reliability of the model and algorithm are verified by numerical experiments.The Comparative Analysis of different models show that the proposed VMS location optimization model has certain theoretical guiding significance to the practical expressway VMS location optimization.
