Research On Architectural Reuse Of Productive Remains In Industrial Heritage Reconstruction

As a new type of cultural heritage,industrial heritage has witnessed the profound impact of human industrial production on social development.Buildings and structures constructed for industrial activities,their backgrounds,the techniques and tools used and the social life involved are all important components of industrial heritage.In China,the theoretical system of industrial heritage protection has not been formed,but the reform practice has been taken the lead in all parts of the country,causing many cultural identity problems.Therefore,‘productive remains’ is introduced as a breakthrough to solve these problems,which could be divided into four types: structures,mechanical equipment,transportation facilities and tools or products.Productive remains,as well as and industrial buildings,are indispensable material carriers of industrial heritage,which constitute the most intuitive component of its integrity,authenticity and identifiability.Based on the analysis of the concept,type characteristics,heritage value and protection principle,this paper attempts to establish a complete,scientific and targeted theory system of productive remains’ protection and renewal.This article is problem-oriented,summarizes the strategies by sorting out foreign industrial heritage philosophy and excellent practical cases.Based on the expression of architecture,the paper extracts the reuse methods of productive remains from five aspects: function,space,structure,material and modelling.It also attempts to take productive remains as the starting point,gradually explore its relationship with historical buildings,areas and even cities.The transformation projects will maximize the development of industrial heritage,especially strengthen the value of productive remains,highlight the local characteristics,create comprehensive benefits for the community and act as a strong impetus to promote urban renewal.Based on the theory above,through on-the-spot investigations of productive remains renovation projects in various parts of China,the existing problems in the practical application of the strategy were clarified — — cognitive limitation,lack of integrity and excessive transformation.It is hoped to use these theories to guide practice and expand the development of the reuse of productive remains in China.
