The rapid development of the automobile industry facilitates people’s travel and life, but also brings problems such as traffic congestion, energy consumption, and environmental pollution. In the signal control area of urban road traffic network, vehicles often occur frequent accelerations and decelerations or long idling stops, which are the important causes of high fuel consumption and exhaust emissions. Therefore,it directly affects fuel economy of vehicles and makes the signalized intersections become the most polluted areas. In the traditional signal-controlled intersection, the eco-driving control method is mainly based on the way of seconds’ countdown or glitter hint, with no condition to obtain the signal time and phase information. With the development of the connected vehicle technique,V2I(Vehicle to Infrastructure)communication system can be established in the intersection area, which enables vehicles to obtain traffic signal information in real time, and the green light optimal speed advisory can be achieved. This paper studies the energy-saving-oriented eco-driving speed control strategy based on V2 I communication. The main research work is as follows.Firstly, the correlation between fuel consumption and speed is analyzed.VT-Micro model is introduced, and the accuracy of VT-Micro model is verified by the fuel consumption data obtained from the vehicle driving field test. The relationship between instantaneous fuel consumption and driving speed is studied.Secondly, the energy-saving-oriented eco-driving speed control model is established, the optimization objective is minimizing the fuel consumption per kilometer. The scene of a vehicle passing through a signalized intersection is divided into six cases. The optimization algorithm of eco-driving is designed.Thirdly, simulation experiments are conducted to solve practical problems. The simulation scenes are designed based on actual states of vehicle operating on the urban road, the optimal velocity trajectory in each scene is found out. Finally, the field test is conducted in the real urban road.Experiments are carried out under the condition of with/without eco-driving speed control strategy. It is proved that the eco-driving speed control system plays a good role in improving the traffic efficiency of intersection, and can reduce the average fuel consumption by 17%,which indicate a good oil saving effect. The proposed eco-driving speed control model can provide accurate speed advice to driver, and the fuel consumption in signalized intersection area can be saved effectively compared with the non-eco-driving situation.
