The rapid development of social economy greatly satisfy the people's material life,under the conditions of saturated material demand people began to pay attention to spiritual need,from the beginning of the material function needs to culture,the pursuit of personalized.Under this background,the traditional cultural symbols plays a more and more important role in modern product.Get design inspiration from the traditional culture and build up with national characteristics design brand is the present and the future market development trend.Based on the theory of product semantics this paper attempts to explore rational approach that the traditional culture elements used in modern product design,this paper chooses Chinese traditional fan as the research object,analyzes the traditional fan cultural connotation,and puts forward the model of design strategies and methods of traditional fan culture elements applied to modern design.This paper is divided into two parts: first is the semantic study of traditional fan culture elements,the second is the research on the method of traditional fan culture elements applied in modern products.For the traditional fan semantic research on a shaft time,using the longitudinal comparative analysis.From the evolution of symbols and reasons for changes analysis of the traditional meaning of fan connotation,and combined with the case of traditional fan elements in the modern product semantic to express.The research of this chapter provided material and inspiration for the application of fan culture element in modern product,and an example of traditional fan elements transform into the modern design language to prove the feasibility and provide guidance and references for further research.Design strategy research mainly using the case method,based on Li Kete rating scale of the existing market design case.From the results to find design rule and symbolic form to guide the fan culture element in modern product design and the performance of the design level.Finally,combined with the previous research results put forward the design program of traditional fan culture elements applied in modern product design.In the design process to extract design factor is an important link,and respectively put forward "extracting object" and "subject symbol" design factors of design factor method,finally to verify the design practice.
