Confronting local disintegration, what can architect do,in addition to reconstructing fragments of local collection to express nostalgia? Despite the opposition to the reappearance of the local style, the Critical Regionalism still affirms the reinterpretation of the local elements, but what makes critical "reinterpretation" has not been specifically discussed. This article attempts to resort to the concept of "image" to analyze this topic. The reinterpreted object-the native(or possibly foreign)element can be understood as a reference for architectural creation. On the one hand, the image implies an observable and sensible point of view rather than an abstract order analysis. On the other hand,it separates the contents and functional aspects(including stress structure and use function)of the reference object perception level. The former is the need for analysis of regional memory and affection, and the latter is necessary for the discussion of the conversion of reference objects under new conditions of technology and function. The article begins with how architects choose reference objects and how they transform this image, and gradually develops regional analysis.Obviously, the difference in the “reinterpretation” approach of the architect begins with the choice of the interpretation object, and the transformed image is included in the topic of construction."Image" also refers to the presentation of the design, which focuses on the visual presentation of the building’s surface, that is,the representation of the(visual)perceptual attributes of the building formed by form, material, and light. The article focuses on how architects shape the regionality through the appearance of architectural surface, which is a regional thinking beyond the reinterpretation of native / foreign elements.Through the elaboration of this issue, this article attempts to show that the image of the building surface does not mean symbolic association or superficial sensory pleasure. On the contrary, through the careful design of the materials and forms, the image can show the environment, the construction,As well as the connection of life,it creates a “depth” of the surface and is closely connected with the region. The article uses the expanded "images" to cut into regionally shaped thinking, and uses categorized methods to develop regional theories and practices. It is not only concerned with how the image of the building embodies regionality in the presentation of the design, but also about the design process, how the architect chooses the reference of the image and translates this reference. In this process, the important issues discussed by Critical Regionalism-the local refraction of the "world culture" of the region and the national culture-are also more or less apparent.
