Research On Local Self-built Housing Based On The Concept Of Modernity

In recent years,regional architecture has attracted wide attention as the main part of rural built-environment and an important carrier of cultural identity.In most places,the regional tradition is undergoing the process of modernization or heritagization,with inevitable break of history.The difference between "Modernity" and "modernization" is that it not only refers to the progress and development of science and technology,culture and economy,but also a kind of thought,cognition and understanding of modern life and modern concept.While this paper tries to discuss a possibility using North Xi'an Street,a self-built ethnic community in Lijiang,Yunnan,as an example,and 12 self-built houses as samples.In face of the spread of modernity,the community responds to the development of building technology,lifestyle and conception,and keeps renovating the application of materials,crafts,space and style in their building tradition.Characters of modernity are being integrated into the existing tradition,Under the joint effect of the persistence of tradition and the infiltration of modernity,which shows a possible path of regional architectural tradition in contemporary evolution.
