Medical buildings are places where humans treat diseases and restore health. In recent years, under the support of the government, the medical industry has developed rapidly. The intensification of China’s aging trend and the increasing urban population have put forward new requirements for the development of medical and health care. The number of daily outpatient clinics in general hospitals continues to grow, and hospitals will face new challenges. In the period of rapid development of hospital construction,it is also necessary to design a comfortable, convenient, efficient and orderly hospital space from the perspective of patients, while considering the patient’s physical and mental needs from the perspective of patients. The waiting space in the hospital space is the space where the patient has the longest stay and the most concentrated flow during the patient visit. It is also an important space for the patient to rest and relieve stress before entering the clinic. Therefore, the spatial quality of the waiting space can have a non-negligible influence on the patient’s body and mind. The waiting environment with good environment, stable order, rich functions, flexible and comfortable can not only relieve the anxiety of the patient’s long wait, but also reflects the hospital’s the patient’s humanistic care and the optimal design of the waiting space are an important part of improving the overall service quality of the hospital. This paper takes the waiting room of general hospital as the research object, from the perspective of architecture, combined with the basic theories such as environmental psychology and behavioral psychology, analyzes the relationship between architectural space and behavior and psychology;the basic materials for a large number of hospital design and domestic and foreign The excellent cases were collected and sorted, the spatial patterns of different hospitals were classified, the advantages and disadvantages were compared, and the physiological and psychological effects of different waiting room modes were analyzed. Some representative large-scale general hospitals were selected for on-the-spot investigation, observation and analysis.Different behaviors of patients in the space and the patient’s physical and mental needs in the waiting room were investigated in the form of questionnaires, and the data were quantitatively analyzed. The common problems in the waiting room of general hospitals were found, and the spatial layout, spatial scale and spatial quality were three.Aspects are elaborated. Finally, the theory and actual research are combined to propose the optimization design strategy of waiting room,in order to meet the patient’s physical and mental needs to the maximum extent and create a waiting space for patients to bring a good comfortable experience from the perspective of architectural design. In general, the article concludes the design strategy through theoretical analysis, field research, questionnaire distribution, and progressive data statistics, and further validates it with actual projects.Trying to face new challenges in the hospital today,patient-centered,from the perspective of architecture, proposes a specific optimization design method for hospital waiting space,in order to provide reference and inspiration for more hospital building design in the future.
