Traditional villages are an important part of China's historical and cultural heritage. They are the historical products of China's farming society. They contain rich cultural connotations and are witnesses of traditional culture. In the process of modernization and urbanization, under the influence of urban expansion, the protection and development of traditional villages have been severely tested. In 2012,the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development announced a total of five batches of traditional villages and began to pay attention to the protection of traditional villages. In this context, from the perspective of geography, four batches of national traditional villages selected for the "Chinese Traditional Villages Directory" in East China are studied. The article includes the following seven chapters, namely:The first chapter is the introduction, which mainly clarifies the background and significance of the topic, the research content, the analysis of the relevant concepts of traditional villages, the research status and background at home and abroad, and the research technology route. The second chapter is mainly about the introduction of the natural and human geography of the study area, and the data sources and methods used in this paper. The third chapter explores the spatial distribution pattern, uses the nuclear density estimation method in AcrGIS to analyze the traditional village density distribution, and uses the nearest neighbor index to explore the spatial distribution of traditional villages at the regional and provincial levels. The spatial Gini coefficient, geographic concentration index and imbalance index are used.Analysis of the spatial distribution of provincial and municipal levels in traditional villages;using spatial autocorrelation to explore the relevance of traditional villages. The fourth chapter combines the natural and humanistic background of East China, and explores the influence of elevation, slope, aspect, river, distance from central city, county, historical culture and social and economic factors on the distribution of traditional villages. The traditional villages in the traditional villages are classified according to their geographical location, and the traditional villages in East China are classified. The fifth chapter summarizes the difficulties in the protection of traditional villages in East China and the difficulties encountered in protection and development. On this basis, constructive countermeasures are proposed. The sixth chapter is a summary of the paper, summed up:1.The spatial distribution characteristics of traditional villages in East China are less in the south and less in the south. It exhibits a high degree of agglomeration, and the high-density area is centered on Zhejiang, and is scattered to Anhui,Fujian, and Jiangxi,namely,Ganbei-Zhexi-Wannan.City level aggregation is higher than provincial level.Traditional villages have significant autocorrelation, with obvioushotspots and high-concentration areas, similar to the results of the nuclear density method.2.The natural geographical environment in East China has an important impact on the distribution of traditional villages.Traditional villages are distributed in low mountains and hilly areas, and the terrain is rugged as a natural barrier for the protection of traditional villages, mostly distributed in the range of 100-300 m above sea level.Nearly half of the traditional villages are located on the shady slopes. On the basis of discarding a certain amount of heat, the mountain valleys with moderate terrain are selected, and they tend to be distributed within 0.5km of the water source. Most of the traditional villages are located far away from the central cities and county towns. The distance from the central cities is greater than that of the county towns, and many of them are in the middle of economic development.3.The protection of traditional villages in East China is faced with a sharp decline in number,“hollowing”,imperfect policy protection, lack of professional protection personnel and contradictions between protection and development. In this regard, this paper proposes to improve the traditional village protection system and laws, and to formulate traditional villages.Protection planning and multi-agent cooperation to protect traditional villages.
