With the rapid development of economy in China,the level of people's material and cultural lives is improved day by day,which puts forward higher requirements for railway development.In the major railway transport corridors,mixed passenger and freight transport mode on the busy main lines is no longer suitable for the current railway development demands.It is quite necessary to implement the strategy of diverse transport of passenger and freight in the railway network,or even their totally separate running by building new passenger dedicated lines and freight dedicated lines,and upgrading existing lines,so as to alleviate effectively the situation of capacity constraints on existing lines.By introducing the separate running of passenger and freight trains(SRPF),the throughput capacity and the transportation capacity of existing lines could be improved dramatically,the freight transportation volume could be increased substantially,and peoples' travel could be more conveniently and quickly.As an important transport channel in west area of inner Mongolian,the capacity of the existing Jining-Baotou Line is very tense with the increase of coal transportation volume year by year.Therefore,it is urgent to build the second double-track and to expand the capacity of existing railway.This paper mainly analyses the outstanding problems with SRPF,including the existing line capacity,the passenger and freight transport volume,the corresponding facilities and the transportation organization.Additionally,the necessity of building the second double-track,and how to divide rationally the future work and to make effective use of the line after their completion are explained.Moreover,based on the current SRPF of Jining-Baotou,this paper researches the division,the capacity utilization and the transportation organization of the modes of Four-track and Six-track.Also,the Deduction Coefficient Method is used to calculate and to compare the throughput capacity and utilization ratio of each line before and after SRPF,and the difficulty of transportation organization is found out by checking the capacity of Hulu Station.Considering the current mode of transport organization,using the theory of division between high-speed railways and existing railways in the corridor,the relevant problems are solved,which are the electric expansion of Tangshan-Hohhot line,the decomposition and transformation of Hulu Station,and the effective utilization of the West Hohhot classifying yard.Hence,this study could allocate reasonably thosetransport resources in the corridor by theoretical support and reasonable suggestions aiming at optimizing the overall benefits of the Jining-Baotou transport corridor.
