Design Research On Comprehensive Protection And Development Planning Of Traditional Historic 'WEI' And 'SUO'

Taking 'WEI' and 'SUO' as objects,the paper studies the construction of coastal defense system in Zhejiang coastal areas in Ming Dynasty and the changes of local vernacular landscape caused by the implantation of the military forts.Based on the high resolution aerial satellite images,the Zhejiang historical maps in the Republic of China,the historical maps from ancient books and documents and local chronicles of coastal defense construction in Zhejiang,this paper comprehensively considers the unique geographical environment along the coast of Zhejiang and the landscape related to the layout of these military forts.By summarizing their plane form characteristics,the common consideration of the site selection about the city construction,the paper analyses their location and layout,meanwhile basic city elements are discussed.Then the general layout mode of Zhejiang coastal 'WEI' and 'SUO' is concluded and the possible variants through typological analysis.Geographical disciplines focus on clarifying the strategic significance and the gains and losses of the system and overall layout of coastal defense system;planning disciplines focus on the case study of these forts.Rarely did they carry out researches to analyze the interaction between the military towns and the changes of landscape environment from both historical and geographical data and landscape perspective.This paper combines the advantages.Focusing on the strategic evaluation of large areas,we explores the relationship between city and nature and traditional human settlements from the perspective of landscape architecture and also investigates the space of man-made space form and related elements of the forts,with much consideration of traditional landscape pattern and the relevant planning concepts.We should give full play to the advantages of two subjects and adopt distinct visual drawings to express the information,so as to better present the historical materials and the development process of these military towns.The construction of these towns laid the foundation for the development of Zhejiang coastal areas in the future.Because of their existence,they greatly changed the local landscape and natural environment.This paper systematically deduces the plane morphological characteristics of 'WEI' and'SUO',and summarizes the basic barracks model of 'WEI' and 'SUO' town.By exploring the law of its development and the transformation under the historical process,we hope it act as guiding role in the construction of today's Township cities and the improvement of living environment.
