As a living fossil of history and culture, architecture not only provides shelter for human beings in the history of human development, but also bears the spiritual sustenance of different nationalities in different eras.It is the witness of the materialization of human civilization.Classical palace architecture is the essence of humanistic thoughts of different countries, different eras and different societies, exuding the life and soul of the regional architectural culture granted by the times. They represent not only the tradition of the country, but also the national symbol and spirit.Chinese and western classical court architectural cultures both are precious cultural heritages of world architecture. As time goes by,their configuration and role-playing are constantly changing and renewing in the great waves of history, writing the history of human civilization and telling the times'story. The paper takes the comparative analysis as the starting point, and supplements the relevant picture information of the field research to explore the architectural design culture behind the two palace buildings. The ancient Chinese and Western palace buildings developed independently of each other, which resulted in the different styles of architecture in the east and the west today. The Forbidden City and the Louvre,as the typical representatives of the classical palace buildings of the East and the West, have developed their architectural design culture along different cultural trajectories in the long-term historical development. Therefore, the comparative study between the Forbidden City and the Louvre should start from the geographical environment and the time background of the two palaces, and find out the source of the great distinction between the two along their historical development line, and discuss the different humanistic Connotations and cultural spirits reflected by the two palaces. In this paper, the historical evolution of the two palaces is analyzed from shallow to deep.Firstly, starting from the building materials, the origin and development of the Forbidden City and the Louvre Museum are compared and sorted out to analyze the influence of different historical environments and national values on the palace architecture. Then, starting from the spatial consciousness of the building, through the comparison of architectural forms and the space art, gradually penetrates into the architectural design and cultural. Then, from the decorative style aspect of the palace, through the usage of the architectural color and the description to the decorative form to do a more in-depth explanation about the architectural surface design culture. Finally,by discussing the architectural design culture contained in the two palaces, this paper elaborates the philosophical idea behind the architecture. The design culture of the Forbidden City in China is subject to these thoughts:the ethical thoughts of Confucianism, the nature view of "nature and man in one" of the Taoist, the philosophical thoughts of yin-yang and so on.However, the French Louvre is subject to these thoughts:the religious belief containing transcendence spirit in the West, the aesthetic taste under the rational spirit, the philosophical view of conquering nature and controlling nature.By comparing and analyzing the architectural design cultures of the two representative palaces, this paper aims to find out the differences between the Forbidden City and the Louvre in terms of building materials, architecture's space awareness, decorative style and architectural design culture, and explores the differences in in economy, religion and culture behind it,it has certain reference significance for the inheritance and revival of Chinese culture.
