Research On The Hall Platforms Of Liao Dynasty(907-1125)

Platform as an essential part of a traditional Chinese building is closely related to the upper structure of the construction.yet the current research of Chinese architectural history related to platform is relatively weak.This paper attempts to explore the building technology applied to the making of platforms of halls and palaces constructed during the Liao period,with its most supportive materials coming from archaeological excavations.This paper counts 13 reliable heritage groups and 26 cases within the domestic bond of modern China.With the excavated and existing Liao structures,this paper talks about the construction technology of the Diantang-style wooden structures,including types and scales,building methods,materials and practices of the surface cladding and etc.This paper points out that the construction technology of Liao is nearly perfect,while it differs from the official construction practice stipulated in the Northern Song Dynasty’s Ying-zao-fa-shi and shall be considered as is more closely related to the construction techniques of the Sui and Tang Dynasties,together with the later Bohai State.This thesis is divided into four parts:the first part talks about the topic selection;the second deals with archaeological excavation materials;the third discusses the related issues based on archaeological materials and its possible relation with its frontiers as well as companions in architectural practice;the fourth part is the prospect of this research.The full text of this essay counts more than 50,000 words,43 pictures,and 3 sheets.
