Renewal Design Of The Nanjing Yangtze River Bridge Park Based On Place History Research

As the first double-decked road-rail truss bridge designed and built by Chinese expertise and engineering team,the Nanjing Yangtze River Bridge has attracted a large amount of researchers over the past decades,due to its unique value in historical,aesthetic and social aspects.However,considered as the affiliated infrastructure of the bridge,the South Bridgehead Park did not draw corresponding attention.The historical material of the site,especially those which recorded the construction stage of the Nanjing Yangtze River Bridge,is in urgent need of systematic collation and analysis.Due to the maintenance of the bridge from 2016 to 2018,part of the South Bridgehead Park got damaged.On the other hand,it is also an opportunity for renovation of the park.From the perspective of place historical research,the thesis discusses the historical change and current situation of the site and provides a possible strategy for renewal design of the park through study on several cases.The historical research mainly includes three parts-International Export Company and Meat Processing Plant(1913-1959).construction site for the Nanjing Yangtze River Bridge(1959-1971)and the South Bridgehead Park(1971-).The research focuses on the second part of the historical stage,studying the layout of the construction site and workers' life on the site.The current situation part includes research and analysis on public transportation,nearby communities and nodes of public space of the area,as well as details of the site.The cases study part includes analysis and conclusion on three cases adopting different strategies for park renewal.Concluding strategies and methods from above researches,the design part includes the overall renovation plan,three specific methods and relevant drawings.The research recreates the scenes of the construction site for the Nanjing Yangtze River Bridge,providing reference resources for researches on other major pro.jects during the same period.Besides.the design which provides a possible strategy for renewal of the park,can also be referred in similar cases.The whole thesis contains about 17000 words,74 pictures and charts.
