As one of the main chemical joining methods of automobile body in white,structural adhesive bonding can realize the connection of the similar or dissimilar material,and has the advantages of high strength and uniform stress distribution.As one of the main mechanical joining methods of automobile body in white,self-piercing riveting has the advantages of excellent aging resistance with respect to the chemical connection methods.The two joinion methods are applied in the same joint and interact to form a SPR-adhesive hybrid joint.The joint quality and mechanical properties of SPR-adhesive hybrid joining have always been valued by the automobile OEMs.This paper used the finite element numerical simulation analysis and experimental methods to study the structural adhesive bonding,self-piercing riveting and SPR-adhesive hybrid joining,and realized the accurate prediction of the mechanical properties of the joints of these three joining processes.Firstly,this paper introduced the structural adhesive joining technology,finite element analysis method and cohesion zone model of structural adhesive.For the single lap joint,three-dimensional adhesive layer material numerical model,two-dimensional adhesive layer material numerical model and three-dimensional contact behavior numerical model were built by ABAQUS software.The shear simulations of the numerical models were solved by quasi-static analysis.The specimen of structural adhesive single lap joint was prepared,and the shear test of the specimen was completed.Comparing the simulation and experimental results,the accuracy of the three numerical models for the prediction of the shearing performance was verified.Secondly,this paper introduced the SPR technology and metal progressive damage model.Pre-loading numerical model,riveting numerical model and releasing numerical model of SPR were built by ABAQUS software.The forming test of SPR was completed,and the central metallographic section was prepared.Comparing the characteristic parameters of cross-sections of the simulation and test,the accuracy of the self-punching riveting numerical model for joint quality prediction was verified.The influences of the diameter of die and the hardness of rivet on the joint quality were obtained by single factor tests.Then,the paper introduced the preparation sequence of SPR-adhesive hybrid joining process and failure types of SPR-adhesive hybrid joint.For the T-joint,the structural adhesive bonding numerical model,SPR numerical model and SPR-adhesive hybrid numerical model were built by ABAQUS software,The peel simulations of the models were solved by quasi-static analysis.The specimens of the structural adhesive T-joint,SPR T-joint and SPR-adhesive hybrid T-joint were prepared,and the shear tests of the specimens were completed.The accuracy of the three simulation models for the prediction of the peeling performance were verified by comparing the simulation result and test result.Comparing the force-displacement curves of SPR T-joint and SPR-adhesive hybrid T-joint,the influence law of structural adhesive on SPR peeling performance was obtained.Comparing the adhesive damage cloud of structural adhesive T-joint and SPR-adhesive hybrid T-joint,the influence law of SPR on damage of structural adhesive T-joint was obtained.Finally,this paper introduced the secondary development of ABAQUS.The plugin of the structural adhesive single-lap shear simulation was built by the RSG function of ABAQUS software,which can realize parametric modeling and automatic solving,and improve the efficiency of finite element simulation.
