Talents are the main driving force for the development under the economic transformation.In today’s economic transformation,Chinese universities have turned from extensive development to high-quality development.The university is a base for talent cultivation.In this context,the outdoor public space of the university also needs to be humanized and refined to meet the needs of people.Based on the social responsibility of universities and the demands of university users,this paper analyzes the theories related to the spatial development of university campuses under the demand orientation,and studies the current changes of social responsibility of universities and the planning and design methods of university campuses.Starting from the evolution of social responsibility and space in universities,the spatial development trend under the demand orientation is found.The spatial characteristics and specific methods to meet the demand are studied.Based on literature analysis and investigation,this paper studies the needs of the main users of outdoor public space in university campus.This paper USES the literature to analyze the main demand,that is,the society’s expectation to the university,the characteristics of the psychological and physiological demand of the university students and the staff,and makes a summary.On this basis,the space needs of the main body are analyzed,and the space needs of the five main bodies of domain,privacy,autonomy,humanity and leisure are considered.The investigation and study analyzed the external performance of demand,namely the demand of behavioral activities,and investigated and studied six main behavioral activities,including sports,learning,leisure,gathering,dating,traffic,etc.,and summarized the demand characteristics of various behavioral activities.On the basis of demand research,this paper summarizes the characteristics of outdoor public space in university campus to meet the demand,and concludes that the space to meet the demand should have the characteristics of user reusability,diversity,identification,accessibility and suitability.Based on the characteristics of students’ basic behavioral needs,the spatial structure of the campus is analyzed.On the basis of demand,the four components of outdoor public space of university campus,including road,square,green space and courtyard,are analyzed and studied.Based on the characteristics of campus road activity demand,the design of walking continuity,the design of walking and environmental integrity,the design of walking suitability,the design of walking safety and the design of internal and external traffic conversion are proposed.By analyzing the needs of walking,stopping,sitting and group activities in the square,the design strategies of entrance square,architectural square and living square are summarized.Based on the characteristics of campus green space activity demand,this paper puts forward three strategies of diversity activity design,activity perception design and environment perception design.Based on the characteristics of courtyard activity demand,this paper puts forward the interactive design between courtyard and architectural landscape,the space transitional design,the space design that can stay and the omni-directional design.
