In recent years, with the rapid development of urban construction, the increasing construction project scale and more complex form in China, the requirement for construction engineering design become high. However, due to the non-integrated disciplines, the effective and accurate coordination and interaction is scarce during the design process, leading to continuous repeat work, inefficiency production, more construction rework, construction cost rise and severe resources waste in conventional 2D model design. This problem can be solved by BIM(Building Information Modeling).BIM is another revolution in the field of construction after the two-dimensional CAD technology and the process of engineering project design, construction and operation management by creating and using the digital model.Facing the construction engineering design stage, with the help of BIM technology, virtual reality technology and data management technology, combined with relevant engineering norms, this paper first analyzes the application of BIM technology in the field of architectural engineering design optimization in China, and puts forward the design based on BIM platform Optimize the process. Then use the Revit software platform and API for secondary development to combine the advantages of interoperation and program control organically in the platform architecture for detailed functional module design; Finally,in practical engineering of the Suzhou-Wuxi-Changzhou Expressway as an example, research the application of BIM technology to road, bridge and tunnel for the Xueyan hub and the Taihu tunnel. This study breaks the technical bottleneck of BIM technology in freeway design and shows that BIM technology is of great importance in the field of freeway engineering application.
