Highway mobile bottleneck refers to the situation where continuous flow in multiple lanes is affected by one or more slow-moving vehicles.That slow-moving vehicle may be a fully loaded truck,a very large truck or a long fleet.The maximum speed is limited because of many factors.So,there are only two options for the following vehicle: change the lane and overtake the slow vehicle or continue following the slow vehicle.That situation is equivalent to a moving lane bottleneck and it is obvious in China.Highway mobile bottleneck limits traffic efficiency and even cause serious traffic congestion when traffic flow is high.Optimizing highway mobile bottlenecks is difficult because of its randomness and mobility.Stable bottleneck literatures,such as ramp weaving section and construction section,are many in existing research while literatures about mobile bottleneck are very few.So,This article put forward dynamic highway management strategies about mobile bottleneck to make up the disadvantage of static highway management so that highway could have a good efficiency.First,this research analyzed highway traffic flow characters on the basis of domestic and foreign mobile bottleneck literatures,found factors which influenced the moving vehicles or fleets based on car-following model and established space headway model of mobile bottleneck.This paper studied traffic flow changing characteristics of mobile bottleneck in spatial and time dimension,which occurred in different lanes.It also established traffic flow models of highway mobile bottleneck,including delay model,capacity model,entrance ramp adjustment model.Second,the author analyzed the relationship between entrance ramp control and road mobile bottleneck and built schedule time model.Then the schedule time was regarded as an optimization goal.Model solving can get the speed of different kinds of vehicles in different traffic state.This research put forward strategies of speed guidance,lane guidance and entrance ramp adjustment on basis of vehicle infrastructure cooperative technology so that highway operation status could be best.Finally,using traffic simulation tests the effectiveness of control strategies.This paper provided certain theoretical basis on controlling dynamic management of mobile bottleneck and had practical and important meaning on improving highway operating efficiency.
