In a world that exploitation of motors is omnipresent,the Switched Reluctance Motor is widely known for its outstanding advantages namely simple structure,low manufacturing cost,reliability,flexibility in its control,possibility to work in harsh or critical environment,efficiency over wide working speed range.Considering all these advantages,the SRM is suitable for many application such as home appliances,industrial production lines,transportation vehicles etc.However the acceptance of SRM by most applications is thwarted by its major drawback which is the torque ripple.In fact,due to the double saliency of the motor,the torque ripple in SRM is naturally high.Therefore,major studies have been carried out on the SRM to address the issue of high torque pulsations.This particular drawback of the motor became the trend research amongst the international scholars community.The torque ripple minimization is of a great research significance,and it is the driving motivation behind this work.The core objective of this thesis is to deal with the torque ripple issue by designing a controller based on DTC method.Existing torque ripple minimization techniques are both complex and their implementation is expensive or does not take into account the nonlinear characteristics of the motor but the designed controller shows great capability in minimization of the torque ripple,while taking into account the nonlinear characteristics of the motor,in addition to that it can be implemented with simple hardware hence it is practically sound.In a MATLAB/SIMULINK environment,the SRM model is built and the designed controller is implemented.For the sake of comparison,the CCC is also implemented.The results obtained verified the effectiveness of the method and proved that the DTC controller has great potential in minimizing torque ripple compared to the CCC method.Moreover the designed controller is tested under different working speed and the results found are promising.The simulations results prove that the DTC method can effectively reduce torque ripple under different conditions and parameters while producing smooth output torque.
