The Impact Analysis Of One Belt One Road On Piraeus Port

During the last few years,One Belt One Road initiative has become one of the most popular research topics for scholars around the globe.Having this in mind,we decided to analyze solely the relation between O.B.O.R.and one of its major places in Europe,the Piraeus port.This is because we believe that,more knowledge for the connection between O.B.O.R.plan and the associated facility can be added.So,this thesis examines the O.B.O.R.impact on Piraeus port.In order to provide reasonable answers to this research problem,we divided it into four(4)smaller sub-research questions.The first one focuses on the nature of the O.B.O.R.plan and on its importance.Through the results of the first question,we learned the main characteristics of this project and we also found that O.B.O.R.is vital for the port,as it has already set specific aims for the role of the facility inside this scheme.At the second sub-research topic,we reviewed the O.B.O.R.improved performance factors in Piraeus Port through COSCO.Here,we equally got really valuable facts.Apart from the considerable number of performance evaluators that have been moving upwards,their range also varies from technical and technological issues to commercial activities.Before we move to the third sub-research point of the thesis,it is useful to say that we also prepared a SWOT Analysis,in order to understand the current profile of the facility inside O.B.O.R.frame and in order to use Opportunities section later in our study.For the third and the fourth sub-research topics,mixed methods are applied.Main part consists of the interview questionnaire,with close and open ended questions delivered to maritime experts only,while minor part includes data from statistics.As for the third sub-research question,it intends to evaluate the future prospects of the port,inside O.B.O.R.and generally worldwide.At this part,close ended questions will be used,based on the content of the Literature Review,the enhanced Performance factors and the opportunities from SWOT Analysis.The outcome,regarding the future outlook of the port,appears to be rather promising.Privatization is highly appraised by all the participants,most of the improved performance factors show great potential and the majority of the opportunities are favorable.The fourth and final sub-research topic is trying to find the additional actions that need to be taken,so as the facility to fulfill the initial targets set under the O.B.O.R.frame.Here,through the open ended question,participants are able to express their own views.Although port's progress is really remarkable,there are still sectors,where further steps are deemed necessary,like the upgrade of inland connectivity and the arrangement of bureaucratic and labor discrepancies.Based on the conclusions of the conducted study,we can say that the influence of O.B.O.R.has been rather constructive.It has enhanced performance and the future prospects of the port,while boosting the facility to become a major place of maritime transport and trade globally.Of course there are still actions that need to be taken,in order the port to reach its primary objectives and to maintain its competitiveness.This is why we believe that,it is crucial for the Piraeus Port to capitalize even further on the dynamic of this concept.
