Brownfields regeneration has become an important topic that can not be ignored in the process of global urbanization. The complexity and comprehensiveness of brownfields have increased the need for close cooperation between landscape architecture and environmental engineering in regeneration process. The successful regeneration projects worldwide show that efficient cooperation can make spatial utilization more rational, and project more economic and ecological. However, currently the cooperation is insufficient in general situation, due to the lack of cooperative awareness and deeply operable research.Brownfields can be divide into several categories.Landfills,as one of the main types, present increasing threats to the health of cities and residents.Ther e are many excellent practices worldwide that have successfully completed the regeneration,in which the use of open spaces is favored. Therefore, landfills regeneration can be regarded as a proper subject, which not only provides a solid base for the study under the perspective of interdisciplinary cooperation, but makes the study more focused.Based on this, three questions were set: In what areas can landscape architecture and environmental engineering reach interdisciplinary collaboration? How to carry out the collaboration? And what benefits can the collaboration bring to landfills regeneration? In order to answer the first question, the Interdisciplinary Collaboration Mechanism(ICM)of space-making is summarized from the perspective of spatial elements and implementation strategies, and interpreted by the case study from aspects of environmental engineering strategy adjustment, landscape earthwork engineering strategy, water system construction strategy, planting strategy and implementation strategy. To answer the second question,a collaborative regeneration guidance toolbox is created for the two disciplines to guide the cooperation and regeneration design in different time and ways. For the last question,a design research based on a Chinese actual landfill project is applied,to compare the different design results of different scenarios in terms of space-making,project life circle and performances. On another hand, the design research examined the application of the guidance toolbox.Research on landfills regeneration from the perspective of interdisciplinary cooperation provides ideas and frameworks for similar research es on other types of brownfields. And it can yield brownfield regeneration projects which are more sustainable and spatially attractive.Furthermore,it can make landscape architects more initiative in the practice of brownfield s regeneration.
