Research On Crafts Of Traditional Wooden Building Workshop In Suzhou

There are abundant traditional architectural heritages in Suzhou.With more attention paid to the protection of architectural heritages,the demand for repair is also increasing.Based on the application of modern tools,in the repairing process of traditional architecture,the wooden technique also changes.To study the current situation of the inheritance and modernization of traditional wooden construction techniques,the research was carried out in this paper.This paper focuses on the traditional woodwork in Suzhou.First of all,the case study of Dacheng Hall of Suzhou Wenmiao was carried out,and the traditional wood craftsmanship was sorted out according to the literature.On this basis,a field survey was carried out on the status of traditional wooden craftsmanship of workshop responsible for the maintenance and repair of Dacheng Hall.Based on the case study of Wang’s carpenter workshop in Zhangjiagang,an oral history survey was carried out on the inheritance,acquisition mode and evolution of traditional wooden craftsmanship,so as to make an analogy analysis with the craftsmen in the workshop field survey.Finally,by comparing the status of wooden craftsmanship with the traditional wooden craftsmanship contained,this paper analyzed the inheritance and evolution of traditional architectural wood craftsmanship in Suzhou.This study was mainly divided into four parts as follow: In the first part,the introduction explains the origin,purpose and significance,scope and content,methods of the research and related research status.It provides the background and theoretical basis for the follow-up research on traditional wooden techniques in Suzhou.The second part included the second,third and fourth chapters.Taking the Dacheng hall of wenmiao as an architectural case,the author sorted out its wood making system and literature and investigated its repairing process,and found out the changes compared with the traditional wood making process.Thirdly,on the basis of the field investigatio,a comparative analysis was made between the current situation of wood craft and traditional wood craft.Finally,the survey contents and analysis results above were summarized according to the woodwork,so as to illustrate the inheritance and modernization of traditional architectural woodwork in Suzhou.
