Ride-sharing is an emerging transportation mode that is eco-friendly and sustainable as it enables commuters to save the travel time, travel cost(fuel, toll and parking costs)and resource of the carpooling participants. While traditional modeling tools cannot catch the mode,an agent-based model(ABM)can do it through modeling the interaction of autonomous agents and deducing the rules for such a system. We,therefore,in this paper improve an agent-based interaction model for the ride-sharing application. In order to commute by ridesharing, individuals need to communicate, negotiate and coordinate, and in most cases adapt their agenda(daily schedule)to enable cooperation. The aim of this paper is to generalize the concept of communication, matching and negotiation of ride-sharing into a multiple agent-based model. The work of the paper can be summarized as follows:(1)This paper briefly describes a conceptual design of the ride-sharing application.(2)A simulation model is created to support the individual behaviors of the participants in the matching and negotiation.(3)It gives the design and the implementation of an agent-based model upon the JADE multi-agent platform. This platform permits to individuals to(i)select the participants according to their characteristics;(ii)identify an optimal meeting point;(iii)negotiate for ride-sharing;and(iv)carpool the driver and the passengers of a car following the short path.(4)This paper selects the real trajectory data set Geolife covering Beijing area and the15-day taxi trajectory data set of Xi'an respectively, and tests and analyzes the proposed multi-agent-based model of ride sharing.Experiments show that the model proposed in this paper have certain effectiveness in accuracy and execution efficiency.
