Renewable energy resources are becoming a reliable alternative to generate energy without greenhouse gas emissions. The use of these technologies has been increased exponentially due to the development of grid integration techniques. In recent times, solar energy system has become the most prominently used source of renewable energy due to its ability to produce energy in a sustainable way.The solar panels can be installed in grid connected or standalone configuration.Over the years, the support programs from governments and utility companies have raised the grid connected PV system installations to new heights.A number of topologies have been proposed for single phase grid connected inverter. It can be single stage or dual stage. In the present study a 5kW dual stage grid connected photovoltaic system is modeled.Maximum Power Point Tracking algorithm is implemented to extract maximum power from the PV system irrespective of the environmental conditions.A control strategy to regulate the quality of grid injected current using damped Proportional Resonant controller is also implemented. An actively damped LCL filter is used for grid current harmonic attenuation. The result shows that the total harmonic distortion of the grid injected current obtained within the standard range and its more feasible values are achieved.Firstly, the robust system response at step change in solar irradiations is observed, afterwards power sharing between grid and PV system is demonstrated by the simulation under varying load and irradiation levels.
