In construction of semi-suspension rudder system, much attention is paid on its manufacture quality.A set of processing and manufacturing technology forms the basis to guarantee the quality, while an inspection technology is applied to convince the quality. Therefore,a set of practical processing, manufacturing and inspection technology is a prerequisite. At first, this thesis investigates the state of the art of the processing, manufacturing and inspection technology of rudder system applied in major shipyards in China and summarizes relevant literatures to this topic as well.Studies carried out in this thesis are focused on the manufactures in a specific shipyard.Factors, which affect the manufacture precision and quality in that shipyard, are analyzed. Then,a new processing technology is proposed by means of the same processing machinery and tools in use.The new technology consists of coaxiality of rudder blade cone hole centerline with boring bar shaft centerline, compensation of rudder stock centrifugal force, interchange of reference base, and replacement of cutting processing by grinding processing.Calculations, which need to be done in the new technology, are also given.Furthermore, inspection is proposed to be carried out on the rudder system, being temporarily assembled,to measure its centerline deviations among rudder blade cone hole, rudder stock and pintle by use of optical instruments.Though new technology mentioned above only makes use of the same machinery and tools as before,it can effectively improve the precision and quality of the rudder system product. This is convinced by an application to the production of a rudder system for 175000 ton bulk carrier. Therefore, the new technology is shown to be both feasible and effective.
