| IT industry shows an extremely fast growth in past 30 years.To catch the transient opportunities in rapidly changing environment,more and more companies run ODM model as an important part of business.ODM model really helps companies shorten the time of developing a new product,save human resource cost and reduce the cost of researching and development.Meanwhile most companies that run ODM model meet different issues brought by the model and new challenges to improve the process to make quality better for their products.Typically there are two ways regarding improving the process management of ODM model,internal management process and external methods/processes to control and audit the quality.For internal management in ODM manufacturers,the popular tool is ISO9001 standard which introduces a stable process for quality management.For external methods,customers of ODM manufacturers always make agreements in contract regarding the process and quality,and how to test and audit against products and process to get the status of projects accurately and timely.As the products are produced by another company,the ODM manufacturer,the development process are not 100% seen and under control,so that traditional methods such as six-sigma don’t fit for ODM model directly.Moreover,most companies don’t have enough experience on ODM model research and have proper tool to monitor ODM model so that they need build their ODM philosophy and model when running ODM model with basic theories of quality management.At the beginning of the paper,several basic theories are introduced as the foundation of all points of view in this paper,including Resource-base View,Value Chain Model and basic theories of quality management.After that the paper refers company H as sample of research with ODM model process in details.By introducing its problems and issues meeting in ODM model implementation and analyzing why it has issues of process management and quality downgrade of products,finally find out 9 root causes by using Pareto chart.Those reasons are from quality of process,quality of work,and quality of service and quality evaluation/feedback of project.To improve the quality of process management and make a well-designed ODM model,based on the problem and theories and experience company H developed several solutions.First of all,build a team to take charge of testing of ODM products and monitor the quality of ODM products in each phase to avoid missing problems or finding issues too late.Secondly,build new processes to review all documentations to make sure both are keep in same page of products and quality,set acceptance criteria of ODM products to verify all products meet the baseline,and quantify the items in report to make quality of ODM clear and accurate.Next,introduce a new mechanism to run a report for each project and against each ODM manufacturer quarterly and annually under new standard.Finally,Chapter 5 cite the data in 3 years after implementing the reformed ODM model to show that quality of all ODM products has a significant improvement and prove that the new model with several solutions works well to company H and better serve its business to catch up with the market changing. |
