Traditionally, the manual patrol of power lines mainly relies on ground transportation or walking, which requires a lot of manpower and resources and is inefficient. However, using unmanned aerial vehicles(UAVs)to inspect power lines can be equipped with a variety of testing equipment and sensors, get rid of the harsh weather conditions and dangerous geographical environment.Achieving intelligent inspection of power lines with long-distance flight can effectively compensate for the limitations of manual inspection. The UAV inspection system uses a large number of sophisticated instruments, making it more susceptible to electromagnetic interference(EMI)which can cause performance degradation or even physical damages of UAVs.Electromagnetic interference(EMI)can cause performance degradation or even failure of UAVs.Therefore, the research on electromagnetic compatibility(EMC)technology in UAV power line inspection is of great significance. In view of this background, this paper explains the concept of electromagnetic interference and electromagnetic compatibility and its specific performance in the inspection environment on the basis of introducing the research results of UAVs and electromagnetic interference suppression technology; The conventional power substation was taken as an example, and the electromagnetic environment around 500 kV,220 kV and 110 kV high voltage transmission lines are simulated.Meanwhile, the maximum electromagnetic strengths between the UAV and the electromagnetic at different positions and different distances were calculated and analyzed. To analyze and estimate the safety distance between the UAV and the transmission line or insulator, the finite element method was used to establish the simulation model including the UAV and the standard 220 kV transmission line.Through analyzing the electric field distribution caused by the distance between the UAV and the transmission line, the relationship between R,which was the distance between the UAV and the transmission line, and the ma ximum electric field strength of the UAV was obtained. The finite element simulation results showed that when the distance between the UAV and the transmission line was over 0.1 meter,no discharge would occur, and the smooth structure of the UAV was better. However, considering weather conditions, overvoltage and other uncertain factors, the recommended safety distance would be 0.5 meter. To verify the theoretical research results of simulation analysis, the TerraHawk CW-20fixed-wing UAV is selected to carry out an experimental study on the actual operation of electromagnetic protection for 110 kV to 500 kV high voltage transmission line of Guangdong Power Grid. The experimental results showed that the closer the distance to the transmission line was,the stronger the electric field interference was received by the UAV,and the more failures occurred. The reliability and safety of UAV inspection have been effectively improved after adopting the EMC measures. When the UAV was more than 0.55 m away from the transmission line, there would be no failure, verifying the correctness of the simulation results.
