In recent years,with the rapid development of economic globalization and China’s modernization,the competition of logistics transportation industry has become increasingly fierce,and the requirements of the industry and users for transport vehicles have been constantly improved.After decades of unremitting struggle,domestic heavy trucks have undergone rapid changes.Various new products,new designs and new configurations emerge in endlessly.However,compared with well-known foreign heavy truck brands,the development of heavy truck in China started relatively late,and some aspects such as appearance design still remained in the stage of excessive referencing and imitating well-known foreign heavy truck,so that it has not formed its own unique brand characteristics,and there is still a wide gap in the continuity and serialization of brand modeling.If we want to get rid of foreign technical barriers as soon as possible,the independent innovation in brand technology and continuity of modeling characteristics need to be achieved.The theory of "change is life,unchange is death" is applicable to any industry.Some automobile companies have taken frequent actions,so they quickly occupied the leading position in China.However,there are also some brands that fail to take prompt and appropriate measures,resulting in a decline in the competitiveness of products.The front-face design of heavy-trucks is an extremely important process in vehicle research and development.Based on the research of shape grammar theory,this paper analyses its application rule in automobile styling design.Taking BMW passenger car as an example,this paper uses shape grammar theory to analyze the inheritance mode of the front face styling characteristics of its successive models,and obtains the limitation of shape grammar theory in the practical application process,that is,appearance styling is not only the random arrangement and combination of graphics.Therefore,in the process of concrete shape design,not only the original brand shape characteristics of enterprises,but also the knowledge of design psychology and shape aesthetics should be considered,so as to better show the external form beauty of heavy truck shape.Therefore,this paper proposes an innovative design method of heavy truck front face modeling based on shape grammar theory.With the restriction rules of brand characteristics,shape aesthetics and visual force in design psychology,through product research and collection of information,the genetic characteristics of the front face modeling of brand historical car models are obtained.Using design psychology,the initial shape in shape grammar is analyzed according to the basic visual configuration elements.Combining the aesthetic attributes of shape points,lines and surfaces,and the application rules in automobile modeling design,the initial shape of each functional part in heavy truck front face modeling is extracted.By using the three restraint rules,innovative design is carried out to realize the innovation of shape and increase the brand identification,so as to improve the market competitiveness of enterprises.Finally,through the analysis and design practice of the front face of the heavy truck,the validity of the design method is verified,which points out the direction for the development of truck serialization in China,and is conducive to perfecting and continuing the brand image of the heavy truck.
