Compare to the large membrane LNG carrier, the small and medium-sized LNG ship has the features of short operating, transit frequently and low cost.Recent years the demand of this kind of LNG carrier grows quickly.Because of the extremely low temperature of LNG loaded in type C tanks of the small and medium-sized LNG ship, the low temperature will transfer to hull structure and also the thermal stress. Thus, the research about heat transfer and thermal stress of cargo hold is very important on the design of ship structure. The main research contents of this thesis are summarized as below:(1)Briefly introduced the status of temperature distribution calculations and thermal analysis on ship industry.(2)Using the common heat transfer calculation method to determine the temperature distribution of a certain type C LNG carrier. And based on the heat transfer theory,a 3D FEA method which is fit for ship design area to calculate the temperature distribution was provided. The temperature distribution of the LNG carrier was also be calculated by the method. After comparing the two temperature distribution results get by the two methods,we found that the 3D FEA method is much more effective under polar condition.(3)The saddle structure strength was check by FEA according to the rule regulation and also calculated the thermal stress of the saddle structure. After analysis the saddle structure strength under thermal stress and not,we found that the thermal stress plays a big part in addle structure strength. The thermal stress should draw your attention on the saddle structure strength.
