Landscape Design On Ground Cover In South Campus Of Northwest A&F University

With the development of society,many cities are facing ecological problems,such as environmental pollution,the decrease of biodiversity.As an important part of landscape construction,groundcover plants can improve environmental quality,regulate climate,lower the air temperature,reduce noise,conserve water and soil and improve biodiversity.However,groundcover plants have received less attention in plant design.There are still many problems in landscape application,such as the plant community structure is rather complex,the ecological system become unstable,the blind introduction of a large number of alien species to pursuit of novelty.In addition,local wild groundcover plants have not been promoted and applied,and the design of the groundcover plants is unreasonable because landscape workers have no rich reserved knowledge in the actual work.From this reason,it is of great significance to research on the design of groundcover plants.This study summarizes the design key points of groundcover plants construction taking the groundcover plants as research objects and the south campus of Northwest A&F University as the design site.The research contents and conclusions were divided into the following three parts:First,the theoretical research on groundcover plants and related excellent cases are analyzed to provide theoretical support for the practical landscape design of groundcover plants.Research on groundcover plants at home and abroad focused on resource surveys,introduction and selection,adaptability and value of landscape application of groundcover plants.The concepts,classifications,characteristics,functions and related theories of landscape application of groundcover plants were summarized through the literature review.With the combination of the excellent cases of groundcover plants landscape in the High Line Park in New York City,the London Olympic Park and the Charlotte Garden,the design key points of groundcover plats landscape were summarized.That is pursuing the diversity and complexity of groundcover plants,the design of groundcover plants should be combined with people’s activities,and space is flexibly divided using groundcover plants.Second,questionnaires are designed to investigate people’s perceptions and preference towards wild groundcover plants.The results show that people have received less attention to wild groundcover plants and know less about them.Based on the analysis results,the suggestions are given,like increasing the species of groundcover plants,combing other garden elements in the design of groundcover plants to attract people’s attention,carrying out necessary education for people,and strengthening the management of groundcover plants.Third,the design of the groundcover plants landscape is conducted in the design area of the south campus of the Northwest A&F University.Based on the above three parts theory,the design strategy of groundcover plants is proposed,including the selection criteria,configuration principles,planting forms,application forms,and the matching of other garden elements and management.On the basis of giving full play to the ecological and landscape benefits of groundcover plants,a good campus landscape is created combining with people’s recreational activities.In summary,the relevant theories and design practices in the application of groundcover plants were concluded in the hope of providing theoretical basis and references for the future construction of urban groundcover plants landscape.At the same time,it is hopeful that groundcover plants will be promoted vigorously to improve the environmental quality and increase the urban biodiversity.
