Study On The Indigenization Design Of Hotel Architecture In China After The Reform And Opening Up (1979-1999)

Throughout the development of modern architecture in China,hotel buildings have a crucial impact on the indigenization of modern Chinese architecture.Since the reform and opening up,China has built a large number of hotel buildings driven by the needs of social development.Hotel buildings are one of the first fields of architectural creation in China,no matter in the change of design ideas or in the breakthrough of architectural technology.During the period from 1979 to 1999,the indigenization exploration of hotel buildings was particularly evident in the development of contemporary Chinese architecture.Through the literature review,field research and comparative analysis,the thesis studies the design of hotel architecture in this particular period,and uses this as a breakthrough point to summarize the mechanism and design strategy generated in the process of indigenization design in a special historical context.Combing the indigenization design process of Chinese contemporary architecture,providing a new research perspective for the theoretical system,it has certain reference value and reference significance for the indigenization design in the future.The different backgrounds of the era breed different ideas and methods of indigenization design.These methods show the common characteristics of time and space with the development of society.The time evolution and the thought theory interact and work together in two dimensions.The thesis analyzes the developmental characteristics of the indigenization of contemporary Chinese hotel architecture with two dimensions: vertical time and horizontal ideological theory.In the evolution of the vertical era,according to the comprehensive background of social factors like political,economic,cultural,and the basic factors of construction activities,the development of hotel buildings at a specific stage is staged,to comb the development of contemporary Chinese hotel architectures.The first stage was the initial exploration stage from 1979 to 1984.With the implementation of the policy of the reform and opening up in the Third Plenary Session of the Eleventh Central Committee,modern architectural styles were gradually recognized and promoted.Architects explored many new national forms by a large number of hotel construction projects,and stimulated discussions about the “likeness”.The second stage is the prosperous creation stage from 1985 to 1991.After the precipitation in early stage,the architectural culture began to receive widespread attention.The indigenization design of buildings gradually changed from the form to the space.Through the spatial organization of the building group,the change of space sequence,and the infiltration relationship between architecture and the environment,express the spatial awareness in traditional culture.The third stage is the multi-development stage from 1992 to 1999.The change of economic system formed a new architectural design market.The diversification of the design system promotes the diversification of architectural creation.And different business needs and design concepts bring different building styles.Throughout the three stages of development,the factors considered in the process of indigenization exploration of hotel buildings are more and more comprehensive,from the simple architectural forms expression to the space feelings for human,even to the relationship with urban environment,reflecting indigenization characteristic from multiple perspectives.In the comparison of horizontal ideological theory,through the in-depth analysis of the development background,time range,ideological characteristics and specific projects of each theory,summarize the design methods and practical significance of different ideological theories.Firstly,the nationality of traditional architectures aims to carry forward the spirit of the Chinese nation.There are different forms of national expression in different historical stages.The traditional style is mainly reflected in the form and space of architectures.Secondly,the regionalism expression emphasizes the diversity of culture.Taking modern cities,Lingnan area and western area as examples,the architectural design combines the local economic and technological conditions,integrates the natural environment,continues the historical context,respects national customs,and reflects the local cultural traditions.Thirdly,the localization exploration is based on the architectural ontology and the needs of contemporary life,combining with daily life,echoing the environmental relationship,and using specific elements to reflect the architectural characteristics here and now.The three ideological theories continue to develop with the changes of the times.Under the new demands,they form different direction of indigenization design with mutual influence and unique characteristics.The thesis analyzes a large number of hotel architecture projects,and summarizes the characteristics of the times,the ideological theory of indigenization design and the corresponding design strategies in a specific historical context.Under the needs of industrial development in the new era,architecture indigenization design finds the corresponding elements in the localized ideological theory according to its own functional needs,and combines the traditional design concepts into new localities in light of the current background of the times,to provide more possibilities for the exploration of indigenization.In the process of hotel architectural design,the concept of “peopleoriented”,the creative strategies and techniques of local regional cultural characteristics,and the comprehensive technical means in order to adapt to the needs and service goals of the times,make hotel architecture become an important platform of Chinese architecture exploration under the background of globalization.In the first two decades of the reform and opening up,the comprehensive and diversified exploration of hotel building design has laid a solid foundation for the diversified and indigenized development of Chinese architectural design.The transformation of ideas and methods in the process of indigenization design has pointed out the direction for the indigenization exploration of the extended hotel building types and the other public building types,and established the development path of the indigenization design of contemporary architecture in China.
