Saudi Arabia is one of the most important overseas markets in China’s construction industry.With the further development of Saudi Arabia’s economy and the improvement of the quality of life of its native residents,Saudi Arabia begins to build many large-scale construction projects,which also attracts contractors from all over the world.At present,Chinese contractors have occupied a certain share of the construction market in Saudi Arabia.However,due to insufficient design experience and insufficient understanding of the social status and living customs of Saudi Arabia,engineering changes often occur in Saudi Arabia’s construction projects contracted by Chinese contractors.Moreover,due to insufficient risk management and control capability for engineering changes,engineering changes often result in high additional costs and obvious lag of construction period,which will cause great losses to owners and thus affect the market reputation and influence of Chinese contractors in Saudi Arabia.What’s more,it will have a negative impact on the expansion of Saudi Arabian business and the contracting of Saudi Arabian projects by Chinese construction enterprises.Based on this,this paper will study the risk management of engineering change in the construction projects in Saudi Arabia which contracted by Chinese contractors.Firstly,the background and current situation of risk management of engineering change in Saudi Arabia are introduced,and the theme and research content of this paper are determined.Then,on the basis of the existing research,the key points and innovations of this study is introduced,and the writing structure and technical route of the full text is given.Secondly,related concepts and theories are introduced around engineering change and risk management.On the one hand,the basic theory of engineering change is summarized from the classification,characteristics,causes and consequences of engineering change.On the other hand,the related theory of risk management is summarized from the characteristics and classification of construction project risk.Thirdly,the main engineering changes faced by Chinese contractors in Saudi Arabian’s construction projects and the main risks in these engineering changes are analyzed.In addition,the status quo of Chinese contractors’ risk management of engineering change in Saudi Arabia is analyzed,and the main problems of Chinese contractors’ risk management of engineering change are pointed out.Then,on the basis of introducing the methods of risk identification and risk analysis,a risk evaluation index system for Saudi Arabia’s engineering change is established based onthe Fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process(FAHP)to evaluate the risk factors and risk levels in Saudi Arabia’s engineering change.The risk management system of engineering change in Saudi Arabia is also constructed.Finally,taking a large-scale municipal project contracted by a Chinese contractor in Saudi Arabia as an example,this paper identifies the risk factors existing in the project and evaluates its risk grade with the proposed risk identification method and risk evaluation system.At the same time,the actual engineering change cases in the project are analyzed and studied,and the shortcomings of Chinese contractors in the risk management of engineering change are summarized.Finally,the optimization strategy is put forward for the risk management of engineering change of Chinese contractors in Saudi Arabia.
