The stability and safety of pantograph-catenary(PC)system is one of the necessary conditions to ensure the normal operation of the train. With the increasing speed and load of the train, the arc of the PC system is frequent and more intense, ablating PC materials, degrading the electrical contact performance of PC system, threatening the safety and reliability of PC system. Therefore, studying the PC arc and its erosion characteristics of PC materials, analyzing the influence factors of the arc ablation performance and its ablation processes of PC materials are of great significance for exploring the measures to reduce the arc ablation of PC materials and improving the service performance of electrified railways.Based on numerical simulation, the related researches were carried out.Firstly, according to the theories of fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, airflow field and plasma physics, the arc was considered as an electrically charged fluid. The transient model of PC arc and the coupled model of PC arc and electrodes were established. In this model, the interaction of Joule heat, radiant heat, electromagnetic force were considered.Additionally, the problems of the moving boundary changes, related physical property parameter processing and heat conduction during the burning of the materials were also considered in the model.Secondly, based on the PC dynamic model, the temperature distribution, current distribution and potential distribution of the arc were explored. And the effects of arc current, electrode gap and polarity on the arc temperature distribution of PC were analyzed.Simultaneously, aiming at the arc characteristics and the influence factors of the arc temperature distribution, the erosion characteristics of the arc on PC materials were further proved by using the coupled model of PC arc and electrodes. In addition, the temperature distribution of PC materials and the variation of the molten pool on PC materials under different arc currents, electrode gaps and polarities were analyzed.Furthermore, the evaporation process of the pantograph material was also considered. The ablation process of the pantograph material was simulated, and the influence of liquid surface tension on the erosion of the pantograph material was analyzed. The researches in this paper provides a theoretical basis for the development of PC materials with good arc erosion resistance.
