The Automatic Identification System(AIS)is a system that automatically broadcasts and receives ship's dynamic, static, and other information through the Very High Frequency(VHF)maritime mobile frequency band using Self-Organizing Time Division Multiple Access(SOTDMA)to realize identification, monitoring and communication. In coastal waters, shore side authorities may establish automated AIS stations to monitor the movement of vessels through the area. For the ships,AIS also contributes significantly to the safety of navigation. All the information that is transmitted and received greatly enhances the effectiveness of navigation and significantly improves the decision-making process.AIS adds great value to the safety of navigation overall.Unlike traditional relational databases,NoSQL gets its name because it does not use the Structured Query Language(SQL)as its query language, and thus is often referred to as"non-relational database.”NoSQL has different data models, structures, and features than relational databases. Its emergence has brought about a change often called "Polyglot Persistent," which allows people to choose different data storage technologies in different scenarios,In other words, relational databases are no longer the only option. This paper,in general, focuses on the mining and application of AIS data,by comprehensively using the computer programming skill, database technology, marine traffic engineering theory, nautical science, and computer science related knowledge, combined with relevant research hotspots of the field of traffic information engineering and control. In this paper,an AIS data batch decoding program is designed;a database management system for the AIS historic data is selected and organized;a group of ship motion parameter calculation functions and a marine traffic flow characteristic statistical platform are implemented;while a real-time-data-based ship's microscopic collision risk index calculation module and a historic-data-based water's macroscopic collision risk index calculation module are then realized. At the same time, the research of this paper also involves the aspects of AIS data query, ship trajectory data compression, ship encounter situation identification and determination, and statistics-and-target-ship-distribution-theory based ship domain calculation. In order to test the correctness, validity and efficiency of the related theories, models, algorithms, functions and programs, this paper collects real AIS data of the waters in the vicinity of the Yangtze River estuary for a period of time, and uses the data to verify the work content and results of each part.Ideal experimental results have been achieved. The research content of this paper also lays a good foundation for the subsequent researches to promote the development of intelligent navigation and the intelligent ships.
